“Safely through another week, God has brought us on our way; Let us now a blessing seek, Waiting in His courts today; Day of all the week the best, Emblem of eternal rest.” This prayer of John Newton is a good prayer to have coming here into this place of Christian worship now.  A warm welcome to all attending church here today.  We are especially thankful for visitors and pray that you with us will be blessed under the ministry of the gospel in and with the Christian fellowship of the congregation.

Following the morning service, after a time of fellowship and refreshments, the various children’s Sunday School classes and the Catechism class meet, as well as the Adult Education class. All visitors are most welcome to attend these classes. We pray God’s blessing on this additional ministry and instruction in the light of His word.

Quotes to consider:

“Remember, men do not reject the Bible because it contradicts itself, but because it contradicts them.” H.H. Evansen

“Money will buy:

A bed, but not sleep.

Books, but not brains.

Food, but not appetite.

A house, but not a home.

Medicine, but not health.

Amusement, but not happiness.

Finery, but not beauty.

A crucifix, but not a Saviour.” Anon

“The weight of glory makes persecution light.” Thomas Watson

“History left in human hands would be a very short book.” Anon

“The inward area is the first place of loss of true Christian life, of true spirituality, and the outward sinful act is the result.” F. Schaeffer

“The saying that [God] does not willingly afflict or grieve anyone (Lam. 3:33) applies also in hell.” H Bavinck

“Jesus did a lot of ministry in obscurity. If everything He did got tweeted, it would break Twitter.” E. Grudem

Six short [helpful] rules for Christians:

  1.  Never neglect daily private prayers; and when you pray, remember that God is present, and that he

    hears your prayers. [Hebrews 11:6].

  1. Never neglect daily private Bible reading; and when you read, remember that God is speaking

to you, and that you are to believe and act upon what he says.  I believe all backsliding begins with the

neglect of these two rules [John 5:39].

  1.  Never let a day pass without trying to do something for Jesus.  Every night reflect on what Jesus has

done for you, and then ask yourself.  What am I doing for him? [Matthew 5:13-16].

  1.  If you are in doubt as to a thing being right or wrong, go to your room, and kneel down and ask God’s

blessing upon it [Colossians 3:17].  If you cannot do this, it is wrong [Romans 14:23].

  1.  Never take your Christianity from Christians, or argue that because such and such people do so and

so, that therefore you may [2 Corinthians 10:12].  You are to ask yourself, How would Christ act

in my place? And strive to show Him [John 10:27].

  1.  Never believe what you feel, if it contradicts God’s word.  Ask yourself, Can what I feel be true, if

God’s word is true? And if both cannot be true, believe God and make your own heart the liar.

    [Romans 3:4; I John 5:10-11]. By Brownlow North (1810 – 1875).
