Today, immediately following the morning service, we are privilege with having the Sunday School children put on their Christmas Sunday School program. We encourage all to stay for the short program, hearing also something of the memory work that children have learned this past season. We thank the teachers for their work each week again in preparing lessons and showing love and care for covenant children. The program is a week early on account of some families planning to be away visiting loved ones over the Christmas holiday season. God willing the Sunday School classes will resume again on Sunday, January 7, 2018.

Quotes to ponder!

“Some shake because of their sins but are not shaken out of their sins.” C.H. Spurgeon

“Some people assume worry is the result of too much thinking. Actually it’s the result of too little thinking in the right direction. If you know who God is and understand His purposes, promises, and plans, it will help you not to worry.” John MacArthur

“Without a doubt we could spend our lives searching the literature of the world for a story as beautiful as that of the Nativity and never find it. The narrative of Christ’s birth is especially piercing because it is true [and about such infinitely gracious and glorious gospel tidings!].” K. Hughes

“Man’s insulting God is not reversed by our insulting man.”  Sinclair B. Ferguson

“There is no mere doctrine of “the security” of the believer, as though God’s keeping of us took place irrespective of the lives we live.  Indeed there is no such thing in the New Testament as a believer whose perseverance is so guaranteed that he can afford to ignore the warning notes which are sounded so frequently.” Sinclair B. Ferguson

“The finish line is crossed in the end, not by a burst of human energy, but by collapsing into the arms of God.” John Piper

“It takes a whole Bible to teach a whole Christ in order to make a whole Christian.” Something Sinclair Ferguson’s pastor told him, something very true always to remember.

Can you identify with this cry of the heart from minister George Croly, (London: 1854)?

Spirit of God, descend upon my heart;
Wean it from earth; through all its pulses move;
Stoop to my weakness, mighty as Thou art;
And make me love Thee as I ought to love.

I ask no dream, no prophet ecstasies,
No sudden rending of the veil of clay,
No angel visitant, no opening skies;
But take the dimness of my soul away.

Teach me to feel that Thou art always nigh;
Teach me the struggles of the soul to bear.
To check the rising doubt, the rebel sigh,
Teach me the patience of unanswered prayer.

Hast Thou not bid me love Thee, God and King?
All, all Thine own, soul, heart and strength and mind.
I see Thy cross; there teach my heart to cling:
O let me seek Thee, and O let me find!

Teach me to love Thee as Thine angels love,
One holy passion filling all my frame;
The kindling of the heaven descended Dove,
My heart an altar, and Thy love the flame.
