Welcome to churchthis last Sunday of October, 2018.  Coming to this time of the year, while the culture around us focuses on fearful dreadful scary things, in church here under the gospel word we focus on gospel treasures and deliverance from sin, Satan, death, and hell in and through Christ Jesus, and we may tell of matters of holy joy and everlasting significance. Let us pray it be good for all of us to meet here in the house of the Lord under the word of the Lord among the people of the Lord.  We can’t help but think today of the Reformation movement of the 16thcentury and we praise God for bringing the church then back to the Bible and all its 66 books, “for the regulation, foundation, and confirmation of our faith; believing without any doubt all things contained in them.” (Belgic Confession, Article 5.) Is that your confession of faith as well, by God’s grace and Spirit?

Quotes Worth Reflecting on:
A Daily prayer addressed to God:

“Keep me from saying words that later need recalling;

Guard me, lest idle speech may from my lips be falling:

But when, within my place, I must and ought to speak,

Then to my words give grace, Lest I offend the weak.”

Johann Heermann, 1630

“Gratitude isn’t the fruit of happiness, but its root. When we give thanks, when we look at the world and our place in it realistically, remembering what we are due in ourselves, what we have, and all that we have been promised in Christ, we are astonished, overwhelmed. And therefore overjoyed. Thanksgiving isn’t a holiday to be observed, but a lifestyle to be practiced. Give thanks. And when you are done, do it again.” R.C. Sproul

“If you pay attention [in the journey of our earthly life] you will easily perceive that ignorance of providence is the ultimate of all miseries; the highest blessedness lies in the knowledge of it.” John Calvin

“The life you live in private determines the ministry you can have in public.” Dave Harvey
